Rubber vulcanizing agent (HG/T 4558/2013)
I. Basic Information
1. Core ingredient: Fine, high-purity sulfur powder, primarily composed of elemental sulfur (S).
2. Morphology and Properties: Available in powder and granular forms; stable at room temperature, crosslinks at 120–180℃ (vulcanization temperature), and requires accelerators and activators to enhance efficiency.
3. Implementation Standard: Sulfur products comply with “Sulfur for Rubber” (HG/T 2525-2011), ensuring both vulcanization performance and safety.
II. Core Features
1. Modify the rubber structure: Crosslink the linear rubber molecules into a three-dimensional network, transforming the material from thermoplastic to thermoset and enhancing its resistance to both high and low temperatures.
2. Enhance mechanical performance: Improve tensile strength, elasticity, wear resistance, and other properties to meet the requirements of tires and seals.
3. Improve environmental resistance: Enhance resistance to heat, oxygen, oil, and other factors; slow down aging and extend service life.
4. Adjust processing performance: Select different vulcanizing agents to control the vulcanization rate, match them with the equipment, and ensure efficiency.
III. Usage Restrictions
1. Rubber type matching restrictions: Sulfur-based formulations are suitable for unsaturated rubbers but not for saturated rubbers; metal oxide-based formulations are limited to specific types of rubber.
2. Dosage and Process Restrictions: Strictly control the dosage to prevent over-sulfurization or under-sulfurization; the temperature and reaction time must be properly matched—for example, peroxide-based systems require reactions at 160–180℃.
3. Safety and Environmental Restrictions: Peroxides are flammable, and sulfur dust is explosive; therefore, they must be stored and handled safely. Compliance with environmental regulations is required, and waste agents must be treated as hazardous waste.
IV. Scope of Application
Suitable for rubber products, tires, hoses, cables, and more, it enhances the resistance of natural rubber to sulfur reversion and improves its stability against air aging.
